Essex Police and the VVU tasked us with producing a hard hitting animated film to educate young people of the effects of knife crime, striving for a knife free future.
This project aims to educate young people about the devastating effects of knife crime, inspiring them to work towards a safer, knife-free future. Through powerful storytelling and striking visuals, our goal is to leave a lasting impact on the youth, encouraging them to make positive choices and foster a community free from the threat of knife violence.
Working closely with the VVU and experienced members of support staff that work alongside young people in the county we worked on the project from concept, through script writing, storyboarding and production. To create an impactful emotive animated film.
RANCH has already had extremely positive feedback from within Essex Police and youth service review groups and are excited to see the results when the campaign is launched in early 2024.

This project targets young people aged 17 to 25 arrested for knife possession and awaiting court charges. By providing support and interventions during this period, we aim to prevent further offenses. Focusing on those released under investigation or on Police Bail, we collaborate with various agencies to offer comprehensive assistance, helping them transition from youth to adult systems. Our goal is to reduce drug and knife-related crime in Essex, change behaviours and mindsets about serious youth violence, and encourage long-term, positive lifestyle choices to create safer communities.
The VVU tasked RANCH with creating 4 films aimed at both stakeholders and the general public to showcase the great work they are currently doing supporting young people who are being, or at risk of being, exploited and involved in crime, with a particular focus on drugs, gangs and knife crime.
Use authentic voices telling real stories on the ground to indirectly showcase the great work done by programs run and funded by VVU, we interviewed real support staff and young people that attend these groups and services to understand the positive impact it has made on their lives.
This long running project saw us visit 6 highly inspirational groups and services around the county, delivering 18+ docu-style video assets utilised across multiple VVU channels.
